Start date: September 17th, 2026
Learn to play traditional jigs and reels, and other dance music of the UK, Ireland, Europe and New England in a friendly, gently paced group. This class will teach you how to play by ear, and help you build confidence playing with others.
The class is open to all instruments, and we will cover both melody and chords. In general, the class does not address instrument-specific issues in depth (ie fiddle bowing, flute ornaments, guitar strums) though some of these things get touched on in passing.
Students in this class should have some proficiency on their instrument. You do not need to have previously learnt by ear. Melody players should be able to play scales of D, and G, (concert pitch, so E, A, if you play a Bb instrument). Chord players should be able to play chords C, G, D, A, Em, Am. If you are interested in the class but not sure if it is appropriate to your level, we are happy to have you sit in for one class to try it out.
