Student String Ensembles

Tigers String Ensemble Class – For Beginning String Players, ages 5-10
Thursdays, 4:30– 5:00 pm
The Tigers ensemble class provides an opportunity for very young and beginning string musicians to gain experience playing in a group setting. Children in this group focus on listening to one another, playing in harmony, and maintaining a steady sense of beat while watching the conductor. While playing music with their peers, children learn to balance their inevitable fun with a sense of discipline and team work. The group is open to 5-10 year olds with placement dependent on ensemble experience, maturity and skill level. Tuition is $125 per semester. Director: Heather Sommerlad.

BMC Youth String Ensemble – For Youth Intermediate String Players
Tuesdays, 4:30-5:30
The next step for Tigers, second year Music in the Schools participants, and other intermediate string players: for those familiar with at least first position who also have a good grasp of rhythm, have begun working with bow direction and articulation, and are able to follow a conductor.  Typically for 5th grade and up. Not sure?  Get in touch and we will help with placement!  Registration is open on an on-going basis. Tuition $65/semester ($50 if enrolled in lessons, free to Music in the Schools participants).

BMC Music School String Orchestra – Advanced String Players
Tuesdays, 5:30 – 7 pm
Our most advanced orchestra offers opportunity for committed students to further challenge their playing and orchestral ensemble skills. Students are playing 2-3 octave scales, reading in all keys, shifting and playing in at least 1st-3rd positions, aware of intonation and tone production, and are exploring dynamics and vibrato. From Bach and Bartok, Beethoven and the Beatles, the ensemble explores a wide repertoire. Typically high school age and up. Registration is open on an on-going basis and the fee is $80 per semester.
