SUMMARY:Juventas New Music Ensemble: All We Are
DESCRIPTION:Juventas New Music Ensemble’s upcoming concert\, “All We Are\,” includes a world premiere Saturday\, September 26\, at 7 p.m. at the BMC. \nThis concert spans generations and continents\, and asks what it means to endure\, to hold multiple identities\, and to cherish what is most fragile and fleeting. “All We Are” honors moments\, both ordinary and remarkable\, whose significance is often only understood in hindsight. \nSoprano Kelley Hollis\, clarinetist Celine Ferro\, violinist Grant Houston\, cellist Nicholas Johnson\, and pianist Julia Scott Carey will premiere “Wherever You Think There is Nothing” by Oliver Caplan. The program will include Kian Ravaei’s Unstoppable\, Reena Esmail’s Piano Trio and David Biedenbender’s All We Are Given We Cannot Hold. \nA dynamic contemporary chamber group with a special focus on emerging voices\, Juventas New Music Ensemble reimagines classical music as a vibrant living art form\, bringing audiences music from a diverse array of rising composers that live in today’s world and respond to our time. \n

SUMMARY:Brattleboro Concert Choir with Concora: A Passion for the Planet
DESCRIPTION:The Brattleboro Concert Choir joins CONCORA and the Brattleboro Music Center’s Children’s Chorus in a performance of Geoffrey Hudson’s sweeping oratorio\, “A Passion for the Planet\,” Saturday\, October 3. The concert is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Latchis Theatre\, in downtown Brattleboro. \nThe Brattleboro Concert Choir\, directed by Jonathan Harvey\, is proud to perform with CONCORA’s acclaimed professional choir and orchestra under the direction of Chris Shepard\, along with the BMC Children’s Chorus\, directed by Stefan Amidon. \n“A Passion for the Planet” is an hour-long oratorio on climate change. Its lyrics blend together scientific prose\, poetry and sacred texts from many faiths. The piece traces an emotional arc praising the Earth for being plentiful and providing for all people\, followed by middle movements exploring the dark realities of climate change\, and finally ending with movements expressing the sentiment that civilizations were thriving for a relatively short period of time\, and at the expense of the planet’s health. \n“We are so excited to be part of this epic event\, spanning states and generations\, to consider climate change through this profound and beautiful piece\,” says Harvey. “Geoff’s composition is both gorgeous and provoking\, and to be able to help share it with our community is a true privilege.” \nTickets are $20 in advance\, $25 at the door\, $10 for Youth 13 to 21 years of age\, and free for those 12 and younger. Advance tickets are available online at bmcvt.org\, by calling the BMC at 802-257-4523\, or emailing info@bmcvt.org.
