Spring Music Salons with Moby Pearson

March 28 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Moby Pearson — violinist, ensemble coach, and orchestra conductor — invites music lovers to enjoy a vast array of musical treats. Be prepared to pick up new musical perspectives along the way. As Pearson notes, “Salons are presented in a way that is accessible to all. You don’t have to be a musician to attend — open ears are all that is required.”

All offerings will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the BMC. The suggested donation is $25 per session. Dates and topics are:

Thursday March 28 – Music Inspired by Italy  — Handel and Mozart spent their formative years in Italy. Quite a few other composers visited and came away so refreshed by its culture that they wrote pieces named after Italy or one of its cities. And did you know? Mahler was so influenced by Verdi that he even quoted him, more than a few times!

Thursday April 11 — Strings! — Naturally a vital component of the orchestra, the string family on its own has a fantastically rich repertoire. From Handel to Holst, Mendelssohn to Mahler, Pearson will sample some truly lush and marvelous compositions.

Thursday April 25 — Robert Schumann — No other composer was as much a pure romantic as Robert Schumann, a former law student from Leipzig. In the age of Mendelssohn, Chopin, and Berlioz, Schumann’s style stood out for its yearning and pure passion.  For him, composing was a world of fantasy and dreams. To that end, and in a tragically shortened life, he produced a remarkable number of works in all musical genres.

Thursday May 9 – Pops! Salon — Come enjoy an audio, visual, and edible feast!  This will be a special evening of favorites from across the centuries and the world. A catered dinner is being planned with all receipts going to Groundworks Collaborative.  Participants will hear select recordings of short works from 16 composers ranging from Handel to Shostakovich to Dinicu (who?)!  Details will be posted at bmcvt.org and advance reservations will be required.  To receive information as it becomes available please email info@bmcvt.org or call 802- 257-4523.
