Singing Strong!

October 29 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, repeating until November 12, 2019

The Brattleboro Music Center’s popular ‘Singing Strong’ program for older singers resumes Tuesday, Oct. 1. Sessions are held Tuesdays, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. though Nov. 12. The cost is $85 for seven weeks.

No auditions, requirements, or performances are required. ‘Singing Strong’ is for people who want to have fun and learn more about their voice along the way.

Susan Dedell will lead a joyful hour of singing songs chosen from a variety of musical styles, including jazz standards, Broadway musicals, spirituals, folk songs, rounds, and more. Vocal exercises and tips will help participants keep and expand their range, enhance tone, and increase strength.

Participants will learn about the background of the songs, taken from a collection currently numbering almost 200 pieces of music selected by Dedell. “We call it ‘Singing Strong’ because singing — especially in a group — boosts your immune system, improves heart health, improves circulation, and best of all, makes you happier. So come and raise your voice and join the fun,” says Dedell.

Pianist, choral director, and vocal repertoire coach Susan Dedell has worked with singers of all ages and levels of ability for over three decades. She directed the BMC Concert Choir for 29 years, was rehearsal assistant to Blanche Moyse, and is a long-time member of the BMC piano faculty. She loves to work with people, building skills and confidence, and delights in exploring the meaning and emotions that music communicates.
