Season Guest: Sarasa Ensemble—His Dear Nightingale
November 18, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Our Season Guest Concert Series continues with the Sarasa Ensemble’s program celebrating the clarinet Friday, November 18.
“His Dear Nightingale: Piano Trios with Clarinet” is a program spotlighting the clarinet in two stellar chamber works: Beethoven’s own arrangement of his extremely popular septet, scored for clarinet, cello and piano, and Brahms’ late sumptuous trio with the same formation, inspired by the exquisite playing of the German clarinetist Richard Mühlfeld, whom he endearingly called “his dear nightingale.”
Performers include Eric Thomas, clarinet; Timothy Merton and Jennifer Morsches, cellos; and Jean Schneider, piano.
The Sarasa Ensemble is a collective group of international instrumentalists and vocalists who perform classical music of outstanding quality, spanning the 17th to the 21st centuries, on both period and modern instruments, and bring this music to diverse communities. Through the ensemble’s outreach program in adolescent detention facilities, it is dedicated to bridging cultural, aesthetic, and economic barriers and providing incarcerated teenagers with opportunities for growth, self-expression, and enrichment through music.
