Season Guest: In Stile Moderno – Quia Amore Langueo
October 28, 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
The Brattleboro Music Center’s Season Guest Concert Series welcomes In Stile Moderno Friday, October 28.
The 7 p.m. concert, titled “Quia Amore Langueo,” will showcase 17th-century Italian settings of Song of Songs texts with the timbres of voice, cornetto, theorbo, and organ—the cornetto and voice intertwining as one in works for two sopranos. Complemented by instrumental works for theorbo, cornetto, and organ, these passionate and virtuosic works will make for an unforgettable evening.
Performers include Agnes Coakley Cox, soprano; Nathaniel Cox, cornetto and theorbo; and Juan A. Mesa, organ. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. They are available on the Brattleboro Music Center website – bmcvt.org – or by calling 802-257-4523.
In Stile Moderno is an ensemble for early music, founded in Basel, Switzerland in 2012 by soprano Agnes Coakley and lutenist/cornettist Nathaniel Cox. Named after the “modern style” of music which emerged in Italy around 1600, the ensemble is dedicated to music of the 17th century, and combines fidelity to historical performance practice with a drive to make early music accessible and relevant to modern audiences. Both as a lute and voice duo and in larger formations with cornetto, organ, voice, and plucked instruments, In Stile Moderno has charmed audiences with their engaging performances of seventeenth-century music in Boston, Vermont, and New York, as well as in concert series in Switzerland, Germany, and France.
