Piano Recital with Steve Breck

April 14 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

The Brattleboro Music Center presents a piano recital by Steve Breck, a student of longtime BMC faculty member Chonghyo Shin, Sunday, April 14.

The 2:30 p.m. concert in the BMC Recital Hall is free and open to the public.

Breck will play works from early 18th century to mid-20th century, including Bach’s French Suite #6, Beethoven’s Sonata #2 in A Major, Chopin’s The three Waltzes, Op. 70, and Prokofiev’s Visions Fugitives.

After graduating from college with a degree in piano, Breck worked as an accompanist and teacher in New York City, then moved to California where he worked as a nightclub pianist and played in a Bay Area rock band. Returning to New York in 1980, he built a studio on 27th Street and worked with rap artists and electronic music artists as writer, programmer, and audio engineer.

He later moved to New Hampshire and spent 20 years as the Video Services Manager at Tufts University. During that time, he’d go to work at 6 a.m. to play in Tufts’ piano studios, and return to them at the end of his work day. “If there hadn’t been all those practice rooms, I would not have stayed at Tufts all those years,” he explains. For the past year, he has returned to piano instruction.

His BMC instructor, Mrs. Shin, is a former teacher at the Preparatory Division of the New England Conservatory and at Keene State College, and now teaches at Amherst College. She has been a soloist with the Boston Pops, the Pioneer Valley Symphony, the New England Conservatory Orchestra, and the Windham Orchestra. She has been on the BMC Music School faculty since 1980
