Juno Orchestra Debuts in First-Ever Public Concert at BMC Auditorium

Saturday, Sept. 30, will be a night of firsts, with a performance by the new Juno Orchestra in the first public concert at the Brattleboro Music Center’s Auditorium, at its new location.

Juno Orchestra is a newly-established chamber orchestra made up of professional musicians from the area around Brattleboro, including musicians from Vermont, New Hampshire, and western Massachusetts.

The performance is set for Sept. 30 at 7:30 pm at the BMC’s new home at 72 Blanche Moyse Way (across from Living Memorial Park).

“Juno Orchestra is the embodiment of a long-term dream, one that comes true only with the help of a group of truly wonderful musicians and friends,” says Director Zon Eastes. “This little orchestra holds great promise. I am deeply honored and quite excited.”

Eastes led the Brattleboro’s community orchestra, the Windham Orchestra, for over 20 years. During his tenure, the Orchestra featured many guest soloists, including winners of the annual concerto competition for high school students (a program initiated by Eastes). He has conducted professional and community orchestras on both coasts. He taught cello and coached chamber music at Amherst, Dartmouth, and Keene State colleges, as well as at the Brattleboro Music Center, the Putney School, and Northfield Mount Hermon. Currently, he is Director of Outreach and Advancement at the Vermont Arts Council.

“It’s really exciting to anticipate working with this new local orchestra,” adds Concertmaster Kathy Andrew. “This region is full of wonderful musicians, and I’ve always loved making music with Zon. I’m very excited that he will be on the podium again. I look forward to performing with friends in the new BMC concert hall!”

The program will include Georg Frideric Handel’s Concerto Grosso, Op. 6, No 7, in B-flat Major; Johann Sebastian Bach’s Sinfonia from Cantata 42. And Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto in B-flat Major, KV 191 with soloist Natalya Rose Vrbsky.

Vrbsky has recently been appointed to the Rochester Philharmonic. She plays second bassoon of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and performs frequently with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Opera Company of Philadelphia and with the Harrisburg and Delaware Symphonies. She has performed with orchestras across the US and abroad, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Virginia Symphony, and the Sapporo Symphony (Japan). Vrbsky attended the Tanglewood Music Center, Pacific Music Festival, Aspen Music Festivals, American Institute of Musical Studies, the New York String Orchestra Seminar, and has participated in the Marlboro Music Festival.

Also on the evening’s program will be J. Mark Scearce’s Endymion’s Sleep; Astor Piazzola’s Fuga y misterio, arranged by Andy Stein; and Franz Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 45, Trauer (Mourning).

Tickets are $40, $20, and $10. For more information, call 802-257-4523.
