In Stile Moderno: A garland of roses: Love songs from 17th-century Italy

In Stile Moderno presents “A Garland of Roses – Love Songs from 17th-Century Italy” Thursday, June 12, at 7p.m. at the BMC. This concert will feature baroque guitar, theorbo and archlute joining forces with voice, cornetto, recorder and percussion, in a celebration of 17th-century Italian music. In Stile Moderno is delighted to welcome back Cameron Welke and Dan Meyers to build its Baroque rhythm section of percussion and plucked instruments, above which the voice, cornetto, and recorder weave plaintive or light-hearted melodies. Both the delights and the pains of love are celebrated and lamented in what is sure to be an enchanting evening of music.

Performing will be Agnes Coakley Cox, soprano; Cameron Welke, theorbo, guitar; Dan Meyers, recorders, percussion; and Nathaniel Cox, theorbo, guitar and cornetto.

In Stile Moderno is an ensemble for early music, founded in Basel, Switzerland in 2012 by soprano Agnes Coakley and lutenist/cornetist Nathaniel Cox. Named after the “modern style” of music which emerged in Italy around 1600, the ensemble is dedicated to music of the 17th century and combines fidelity to historical performance practice with a drive to make early music accessible and relevant to modern audiences.
