Cellist Jennifer Morsches presents “Gut Reaction: A Closer Look at the World of Historical Performance,” Thursday, May 23, at 7 p.m. at the BMC.
Morsches has concentrated much of her international career performing on gut strings in pursuit of better understanding music of the past. In this presentation, she traces the history of gut strings through the story of the emergence of the cello, with musical examples by some of its early pioneers, including Domenico Gabrielli, Domenico Galli, J.S. Bach, Francesco Alborea and others. She will demonstrate the differences between gut and metal strings.
