C’mon, it’s not Music Theory!
July 17 @ 10:00 am - July 21 @ 12:00 pm
Beginning Music Theory, Ages 8-12
Led by Heather Sommerlad
Are you learning to play an instrument, but don’t have a clue what a key signature is? Do you struggle with rhythm, note names, or clefs? Do the words diatonic and chromatic sound like rocket science to you, or like silly names for a couple of mischievous robots?
If so, this week-long, beginner level camp is for you! We will start with the very basics of music theory, and work our way up, using games and body movement to gain better understanding. We’ll play major scale hopscotch. Rhythm and melodic bingo. A game of “Who Left Their Sheet Music on the Bus,” Clue, where we’ll decipher the names of people and places through music. By the end of the week, we’ll know enough to go on a diatonic chord progression treasure hunt. And who knows? Maybe the whole note dollars you find will buy you a prize!
