Chamber Series: Con Moto

Our Chamber Series features Con Moto in concert Saturday, September 12, at 7:30 p.m.

Established in 2011, Con Moto, meaning “with motion,” has presented numerous concerts featuring a variety of groupings of instruments and extraordinary musicians performing a range of repertoire. In this concert, Con Moto appears as a string quartet, featuring musicians who are all part of the Marlboro Music Festival community.

In this second-ever Con Moto program of string quartets, Clara Neubauer and Masha Lakisova (violins), Zoë Martin-Doike (viola), and Judith Serkin (cello) will perform Mendelssohn’s Andante sostenuto Opus 81 in E Major; Haydn’s String Quartet in A Major, Opus 20 #6; Puccini’s Crisantemi, SC 65; selections from Dvorak’s Cypresses; and Haydn’s Op. 71 #2 in D Major.

Praised for her “seductive artistry” and “rare grace” (Classical Voice North America), Clara Neubauer is a prize-winning violinist who has appeared at the Marlboro, Ravinia, and Taos Festivals, among others. She has collaborated with artists such as Mitsuko Uchida, Itzhak Perlman, and Steven Isserlis and will join the Bowers Program at Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in 2027.

Violinist Masha Lakisova is one of the unique voices of her generation. Lauded for her “sensitive musicianship and communication” (The Strad), she has appeared at the Marlboro, Ravinia, Four Seasons, Norfolk, and North Shore Chamber Music Festivals, collaborating with Itzhak Perlman, Miriam Fried, Marcy Rosen, and the Borromeo and Ariel Quartets, among others.

Zoë Martin-Doike, violist, is a versatile artist with wide ranging musical interests. She is a top prize winner of several prestigious competitions for both violin and viola and has appeared as a soloist with a number of American symphony orchestras as well as the World Youth Orchestra in Rome, Italy.

Judith Serkin (cello) is a graduate of the Curtis Institute and a founding member of both Con Moto and the Brattleboro Music School. She has toured extensively across the United States, Japan, France, and Canada and has played at various international festivals. She has served on the faculty of the New England Conservatory Preparatory Department, taught at American University in Washington, D.C. and currently teaches at the BMC Music School.
