The son of Russian dissident Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Ignat Solzhenitsyn is conductor and pianist, conductor laureate of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and principal guest conductor of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra. Solzhenitsyn grew up in Vermont and was a piano student of the BMC’s own Chonghyo Shin.

Cellist Sophie Shao, winner of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant and top prizes at the Rostropovich and Tchaikovsky competitions, is a versatile and passionate artist whose performances the New York Times has noted as “eloquent, powerful.” Her “Sophie Shao and Friends” performance as part of this series highlights important works for piano and string quartet.
