July 10 - 14, time tba
Brattleboro Union High School
Grades 7-12*, 2 years percussion training, music reading skills
Led by Steve Rice and guest instructors
“Hit It” percussion camp is all about totally immersing yourself in the world of percussion for a week. From discovering infectious Latin rhythms to improvising grooves around a rhythmic idea to learning the best way to crash a pair of cymbals, Hit It! is a percussionist’s dream-come-true!
The primary focus of the camp is on “classical” percussion instruments such as timpani, snare drum, marimba, cymbals, tambourine and triangle – instruments on which percussionists need proficiency in most school music programs. Some time will also be devoted to exploring Latin percussion instruments with the help of one or more guest clinicians.
Our camp percussion ensemble will perform written music and other pieces learned “by ear”.
Campers should have completed grades 7 – 12 (motivated and talented 6th graders may also apply) and must have at least two years of percussion training with music reading experience.
The camp director is Steve Rice, band director and percussion instructor at Brattleboro Union High School. He has performed in orchestras, bands and jazz bands throughout New England.
