Songs of Divine Chemistry by Paul Dedell and Finn Campman
Directed by Susan Dedell, with the Jubilee Children's Chorus, Limbic System Percussion Ensemble and Matt Hensrud, tenor

Saturday, January 16, 7:30 pm, Latchis Theatre, Brattleboro
Sunday, January 17, 3 pm, Latchis Theatre, Brattleboro

Mystical poets representing a number of the world’s religions provide much of the libretto for this newly composed choral cycle, scored for SATB chorus and children’s chorus, pitched percussion (marimba, vibraphone, bells, handmade glass instruments, gongs) and percussion.  The timeless messages and mysteries of these mystical poems reflect both the vast worlds of differences and similarities that mark humanity's endless journey towards spirit.  Alternating with these texts are excerpts from scientific writings on how the brain learns love.  Speaking of the piece, composer Paul Dedell  says, "Songs of Divine Chemistry explores the fascinating question of the origin of love.  Is love  -- in all its permutations -- an earth bound result of certain brain machinations or does it extends to other spheres that are both real and ineffable?" The production will be accompanied and enhanced by digital projections and shadow puppets created by Finn Campman, a noted theatrical filmaker and puppeteer.

2009-2010 Concert Season

This season the chorus celebrates the 100th birthday of its founder with a special gala concert in October featuring the beloved Vespers of Mozart and a newly commissioned work by exciting young composer Nico Muhly.

The celebration continues with another commissioned work in January, a multimedia performance featuring the music of composer Paul Dedell and film maker and puppeteer Finn Campman.  This new work is scored for adult chorus, children's choir, and percussion, and will be performed at the Latchis Theater in January, 2010.

The season concludes in May, 2010,  with the magnificent Sacred Service of Ernst Bloch, performed with full orchestration.
